- Led data/cloud infrastructure work centered on managed ClickHouse® performance, building a compute-compute-storage separation layer and a console with materialized view backfilling, jobs management, and settings modularity.
- Built and maintained CH-KIT, an open-source ClickHouse® tool in TypeScript and Python, to support adoption in production environments.
- Served as Lead Forward Deployed Engineer with clients, designing data systems through ObsessionDB where in-house ClickHouse® expertise was limited.
About me
A bit of who I am
Hey! I'm Lucas, co-founder and lead forward deployed engineer (data, AI and product) of CloudClerk, Numia, ObsessionDB, and Convea.
I work at the intersection of business and technology, and most of my time goes into using one to build solutions for the other. I'm a workaholic by nature, which is useful when your brain never stops looking for the next problem worth solving.
I'm from Alcalá de Henares, Spain. I've lived and worked across Europe (from a forest outside Helsinki to Florence and Cannes), and operate fluently in Spanish, English, and French.
A couple of years ago I turned down a strategic investment modeling offer at UBS to become founding engineer at a blockchain startup. Since then, I've focused my career on building products around technologies I believe can create meaningful solutions to difficult problems. That path led me through big data infrastructure, blockchain analytics, and more recently into AI systems and agents.
Today, most of my time goes into ObsessionDB, where we're reinventing the managed ClickHouse market. The focus is simple: make analytical databases significantly faster, more cost-efficient, and easier to operate, without forcing teams to compromise on performance. We're also building ch-kit, the first drizzle-kit tooling for ClickHouse: a gap missing for serious workloads, and open source.
In parallel, I'm leading CloudClerk, a BigQuery cost monitoring and optimization tool that combines large-scale data engineering with AI agents to help teams gain observability and reduce costs.
I hold an EIT Digital Master's in Data Science and Entrepreneurship from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Aalto University (9.2 GPA), plus a Bachelor's in Computer Science Engineering. Across my ventures, I've helped generate over $3M in revenue, reached more than 150,000 individual users, and served 50+ client organizations.
Outside of work, I get obsessive about disciplines that take years to get right. I hold a red belt in taekwondo (one step from black, by choice rather than ability), and now channel the same intensity into bouldering. I also love surfing when life allows.
I read a lot, mostly economics, history, and technology. Thinking about how incentives and systems generate outcomes is the best way I've found to keep judgment sharp across the work I do.
I also enjoy debating almost anything interesting: philosophy, politics, economics, technology. Few things are as enjoyable to me as exploring ideas that don't have simple answers.
At the end of the day, I believe in being at the frontier of business and engineering, designing and building products that are both technically excellent and genuinely useful. No shortcuts, no fluff.
